" Like other workers who provide intimate care, postpartum doulas become experts at navigating the delicate and the unsaid: a pregnant woman's hopes, family expectations, nerves and the relationship between a baby's parents. " - The New York Times
After giving birth to my first child in 2018, I was stunned by what unfolded in my fourth trimester (postpartum period). I was completely blindsided by postpartum depression, breastfeeding difficulties and anxiety. This experience has had a profound, long lasting, effect on me, and was ultimately what encouraged me to begin a career as a postpartum doula.
I use my background in social work to bring a new level of clarity, understanding and healing to my clients.
In our busy, egocentric society, it is not uncommon for new parents to feel overwhelmed, under-prepared and exhausted during the initial adjustment period after bringing home a new baby. I provide a combination of emotional, practical and educational support in order for families to regain the physical / emotional strength necessary to move forward with raising a new family.
Since receiving my masters degree in social work, I have gained extensive experience working with a diverse blend of populations, focusing primarily on providing emotional support to survivors of sexual assault and new mothers.
Through much hard work, education and healing, I am proud to say that I have fully and successfully recovered from my trying fourth semester. I am confident that no matter what type of pregnancy and birth you had, together, we can recover from whatever life throws your way.
